about meg

Meg Pfeiffer was born in Halle (Saale) in the former GDR and grew up during a time shaped by transformation and new beginnings. She began studying classical guitar at the age of 8, soon followed by piano lessons as well as music theory and music history. By 11 she was already writing her first original songs and recording them on a simple cassette deck. Her musical influences at that time included Michael Jackson, Alanis Morissette, Sting, Electric Light Orchestra, and Joni Mitchell, and over the years Pfeiffer herself has often been compared directly to Joni Mitchell for her depth, her independence, and her poetic approach to songwriting.

At 15 she recorded her strongest early compositions, inspired by idols such as Alanis Morissette who also released music at a young age on a major label. Pfeiffer handwrote letters and mailed self recorded CDs of her early work titled One to major record companies. Although no replies came she refused to give up. She wrote new songs, gathered industry knowledge on her own, and eventually took full control of the process. Together with her friend she recorded her first album Man from the Woods which was released in 2006 on her own label. This marked the beginning of her path as an alternative singer songwriter. She blended rock and pop into a style distinctly her own and created a sound that friends and family compared to artists like Fiona Apple and Tori Amos.

Even after her debut she continued sending out demos. In 2009 her persistence led to contracts with Sony Music and Universal Music Publishing. Suddenly she was fully immersed in the music industry, appeared on national television, entered the charts, and toured. Over time it became clear that artistic freedom was more important to her than working within major label structures. She wanted to return to her roots, writing, producing, and releasing her own work. The decision was evident. She parted ways with Sony and Universal, reestablished her own label, and built herself as an independent artist in complete control of every part of her craft, from composing and arranging to production, recording, and directing her own video work. Very few artists can match this level of self sufficiency. Since childhood Pfeiffer had aspired not only to write songs but to create them entirely on her own, a vision that now reflects nearly 3 decades of experience and determination.

In 2020 this vision culminated in her first fully self produced album Nope. She released it together with an 84 page magazine designed to accompany the CD. The project was deeply influenced by the passing of her father and carried the force of her decision to pursue her dream without compromise. Featuring 23 original tracks, the album established a powerful artistic statement. At the German Rock and Pop Awards she received multiple honors including Best Singer Songwriter, followed by many additional international distinctions.

Today Pfeiffer looks back on 7 studio albums. Man from the Woods in 2006, Bullrider in 2010, Sunshine in 2015, Nope in 2020, Unsent in 2022, Perspective in 2024, and Red Wine Philosophy in 2025. Altogether her releases have surpassed 3 million streams. Each album brought new experiences and artistic evolution and proves that independence and quality can thrive together.

Alongside her studio work she developed an impressive body of visual art. She has produced more than 80 music videos for herself and for other artists. Together they have accumulated more than 200 million views on platforms such as YouTube and Vevo. Many of these works have received international awards which demonstrates her versatility not only as a musician but also as a producer and director.

Her songs have taken her to more than 25 countries where she performed both with a band and solo with voice and guitar. Numerous international awards in songwriting and music acknowledge her artistic achievements. Most recently her track The Richest from her self produced album Perspective released on August 23rd 2024 earned her a nomination at the Josie Music Awards in Nashville. Other recognitions include multiple InterContinental Music Awards, Global Music Awards, Lit of the Year, US Songwriting Awards, International Songwriting Awards, European Music Awards, and many more.

In 2022 she relocated from Stuttgart to Nashville with her husband, the Italian guitar virtuoso and inventor Luca Stricagnoli, in order to further expand their shared artistic vision in the heart of the international music scene. Together they run their own label, tour globally, and contribute as members of the Recording Academy (Grammy®) to advocate for improved conditions for independent artists worldwide.

Her seventh studio album Red Wine Philosophy was released globally on August 8th 2025 through her record label Muca Label & Publishing and Virgin Music Group Universal Music in collaboration with Mesa Bluemoon Recordings in California. For Pfeiffer this release marked a return to her former industry connections on entirely her own terms with full creative freedom. The sixteen tracks are raw, unfiltered, and uncompromisingly honest. Pfeiffer wrote, arranged, recorded, produced, and mixed every song herself and also created 16 lyric videos to accompany the release. Red Wine Philosophy is not only an album. It is a manifesto of artistic independence in both form and content. A fan favorite titled Solo Sipper reflects on her upbringing in the GDR, the loneliness of navigating the music industry, the struggle for self assertion, and her resistance to fascism and to authoritarian tendencies she perceives in the United States.

Meg Pfeiffer is not only a singer and songwriter. She is a producer, director, label owner, and storyteller. Her work reflects a deep sense of justice, a critical stance toward exploitative structures in the music industry, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity. With Red Wine Philosophy she raises her glass as an independent artist moving confidently through the world, steadfast, determined, and strong as a woman. In doing so she has become a voice for many who might otherwise remain unheard.
